The Object Group creates bold, dynamically sensorial theater. With innovative adaptations and original work, we seek to expand and explore the vocabulary of puppetry and the language of theater.
Under the leadership of Michael Haverty, in collaboration with a dedicated group of performers, devisers, and designers, The Object Group’s intent is to release the latent stories of everyday, extraordinary objects through precise manipulation and a multi-layered, dream-like composition. As the objects are allowed to resonate with the human bodies in performance and in the audience, their powerful and unfathomable nature is revealed, as is the power of the mind to endow importance upon and exploit them. The recognition and apprehension of this creative movement of the mind is our theater’s goal.
We create our performances in a devising process borne through extensive rehearsals in the workshop. Beginning with a single theme, we move methodically and thoroughly through many stages of research, improvisation, tableaux experimentation, object manipulation, and sound labs. We seek to perform outside traditional theatrical spaces, and to create dynamic new models of audience experience and interaction.
